  • Introduction
    This is the online application form for the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s Getting Started Online programme.

    How to apply
    If you haven’t already done so, you must read the accompanying Guidelines and FAQs before starting this form, to ensure you have all the information you need to complete it.

    If you have all of the object images and details required ready to upload. We suggest you review the form to see what information you need to have to hand before you start completing it.

    Application Form
    Please note that most fields in the application form are obligatory. You can save and return to your application up until the application deadline. 

    There are three parts to this online application process:

    1. Eligibility Criteria section is a checklist to assess whether you are eligible to apply for the programme.
    2. Application Form: If you are eligible, you will proceed immediately to the application form.
    3. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Survey: a short, anonymous online survey to support the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. 

    Aspects of the application can also be sent to us as a video via a file hosting service (such as a hidden Vimeo or YouTube link, Dropbox or Google Drive). Please contact applications@goldsmiths-centre.org to discuss making a submission in this format.

    Receipt and notification
    You will receive emails from applications@goldsmiths-centre.org – please check your junk mail and add these emails to your safe list. If you have not heard back from us before the application deadline, please contact us to check that your application has been received.

    You will be notified within four weeks of the submission deadline of the outcome of your application.

  • Getting Started Online 2026 key deadlines: 

    • The Getting Started Online 2026 applications close on: Sunday 11 January 2026 at 5pm
    • The training programme takes place online via Zoom: Monday 9 - Friday 13 March 2026; daily from 10am until 3pm (UK time)

    Overview
    Getting Started Online is the Goldsmiths' Centre's free, one-week online business course for UK-based jewellers, silversmiths, and designer makers looking to start or grow their creative businesses. Running online via Zoom, it offers expert-led webinars, networking opportunities, and practical guidance on topics such as business setup, product development, branding, sales, and growth. Taught by leading industry professionals, the course helps participants gain essential business skills, connect with peers, and build their professional profiles through further exhibition and promotional opportunities.

    Who can apply
    Applicants must live in the UK, have completed an accredited jewellery, silversmithing, or related craft course or apprenticeship, and be starting or running their own creative business. You should be available to attend the full online course and have a reliable internet connection.

    How are applications assessed
    Up to 100 people will be invited to participate in Getting Started Online. All applications will be anonymised and reviewed by the Goldsmiths' Centre team.

     

  • Eligibility Criteria: Is Getting Started Online for me?

  • To be eligible to apply for Getting Started Online, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

    • I currently reside in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
    • I aspire to start, or are in the process of starting, or have recently started, my own business or self-employment in the jewellery or silversmithing industries, whether as a designer, designer maker, silversmith or other skilled craftsperson.
    • I have completed an accredited precious metal course, or an accredited course in a related craft discipline, or a jewellery or silversmithing industry apprenticeship, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
    • I am willing and available to attend the online course, and have access to a reliable internet connection to do so.
    • I agree that the details provided as part of the application process may be held on an electronic database for the purpose of administration and Goldsmiths’ Centre related matters.
    • I agree to complete an anonymous survey to support the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. I understand that my survey responses will be completely anonymous and will not form part of the Getting Started Online selection process.

  • Thank you for answering those questions. We would now like you to upload three good quality images that are representative of your portfolio of work (e.g. a finished piece, an example of a specialist technique, a design or a render). We do not intend to use the images for promotional purposes, and would not do so without your permission. 

    Your 3 images should be:

    • In focus and well-lit, enabling it to be seen in detail
    • Landscape in orientation
    • If it is a finished piece, it should be on a white background. Or, if is a wearable piece, then please show it being worn
    • JPG, JPEG, PNG or Tiff format
    • File size minimum 1.5MB, 300dpi

    Each image should be given a file name that identifies it as yours and links it to the object number on this e.g. ‘Object 1_Your Name’.

    All images must be sent with your application, as specified above, or the application will not be accepted.
